The advantage with a VFD is you can vary the speed of the mill with it - saves you changing the belt. But you generally want a separate VFD for each machine, whereas an RPC can run many machines. You don't generally buy parts for old machine tools - you use the tools to make them. Can be a hobby all in itself.

I have just purchased a milling machine made by Balding Engineering, the maker of Beaver machines, named a "PAL", bought a manual from Tony in England and found out there was very little published about the machines. Tony said the machines were made up from pieces from runs making the "VBRP" model just before they shut down.
